Lately, I've been seeing this picture all over the internet. Most people are saying that Seth Wheeler's 1891 patent drawing is the last word on the "Over vs. Under" debate and I say "Not so fast".
While Seth Wheeler was obviously an inventor with wonderful artistic skills, I do not see why he should be touted as the final authority on how toilet paper is to be hung in every bathroom. Before Wheeler invented the toilet paper roll and dispenser, toilet paper had been shaped more like napkins. Joseph Gayetty is credited with being the inventor of modern commercially available toilet paper in the United States - first introduced in 1857. His invention sold in packages of flat sheets with Gayetty's name watermarked on each one. Advertisements used the tagline "The greatest necessity of the age! Gayetty's medicated paper for the water-closet." So while Wheeler brought a wonderfully convenient solution to dispensing the "greatest necessity of the age!" he also, in fact, started the "Over vs. Under" debate by inventing the round roll of paper vs the flat sheets. How individuals would position the roll is obviously a personal choice. I am a very frugal person and when I was younger, I chose the "Under" position. I can remember explaining my reasoning to a co-worker who was adamant about the "Over" position being the only way. I stated to her "I have found that when I pull my toilet paper from behind the roll, it doesn't roll off as fast and I tend to use less, therefore saving more money on toilet paper." I have since changed my choice but it is still just that, a choice and not a science. It amuses me that this has been an issue for debate for at least 30 years that I can personally remember and I have enjoyed bringing this perspective to you that should help keep it going. Wheeler started the debate that is as infinite as the shape of a circle. See Wheelers' actual patent wording here: https://www.google.com/patents/US465588

Keeping the bathroom smelling fresh doesn't have to be costly or unhealthy. Sprays can actually cause respiratory problems and the other options don't usually fit in my budget.
I find this idea to be brilliant! Whenever you replace your toilet paper roll on the dispenser, drop some essential oil onto the cardboard roller first. Every time you pull the toilet paper and turn the roller, you will enjoy some aroma therapy! :-)

How Harmful are Laxatives?
The good news is that according to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, there is no evidence that use of stimulant laxatives leads to colorectal cancer. The bad news is that stimulant laxatives can cause structural damage to surface epithelial cells that line the rectum but there is no evidence that use causes structural or functional damage of intestinal nerves or smooth muscle. When constipation is the result of medications, laxatives may produce side effects and drug interactions with those medications. An eight year long Italian study to evaluate adverse reactions to herbal laxatives showed that 80% of the cases of adverse effects were by women and gastrointestinal or gallbladder related. Of those, 50% of the cases were serious enough to require hospitalization. The herbal remedies cited to cause problems contained licorice, dandelion, and other plants. The causes were thought due to long-term use, allergic reactions, and interaction with other medications. Researchers noted that while the incidence of adverse reaction was low, the seriousness of the reactions that did happen were serious enough to warrant caution and eliminate any notion of guaranteed safety. Laxatives Don’t Address the Causes of Constipation It seems that most people can probably tolerate occasional laxative use but long-term use is a bad idea and can produce problems. Unfortunately, the real problem is that people who try to remedy chronic constipation with chronic laxative use are not addressing the root causes that are causing them to be constipated in the first place. Does relying on laxatives, every day, to force your body to function sound like a healthy situation? If an inadequate diet is the problem and your digestive system isn’t all it could be you might need a cleansing. Check out my brand new body cleansing diet. It’s a comprehensive approach to replace chronic problems with chronic health. If your digestive process leads to the occasional embarrassing noise, then this could be an important innovation for you. What is it? Underpants that have been manufactured out of acoustic foam, a material specially designed to deaden sound.
Since it's made entirely from foam, soundproof underwear is obviously warm and comfortable, but its real virtue lies in it ability to kill uninvited noises. It knows (in other words) how to keep a secret. Fart Is A Four Letter Word.
The earliest disc records (1889–1894) were made of various materials including hard rubber. Around 1895, a shellac-based compound was introduced and became standard. Exact formulas for this compound varied by manufacturer and over the course of time, but it was typically composed of about one-third shellac and about two-thirds mineral filler, which meant finely pulverized rock, usually slate and limestone, with an admixture of cotton fibers to add tensile strength, carbon black for color (without this, it tended to be a "dirty" gray or brown color that most record companies considered unattractive), and a very small amount of a lubricant to facilitate mold release during manufacture.
